Introduction and Orientation to Foundations of Polyvagal Informed Practice Training Series

In this live-online session, we'll begin the paradigm shift to looking through the lens of the nervous system and embody the practices. You'll learn how the structure of the training supports the dual focus of getting to know your own nervous system and bringing a polyvagal approach to clinical/professional work. You'll meet the training and consulting team and all the members of the cohort, as well as spend time with your polyvagal partner, small consultation group, and your group of 12.

Module 1 - Getting to Know the Nervous System

In this live-online session, the framework of the hierarchy will be used to look at the relationship between states and explore the essential need for ventral vagal oversight in the system. Module 1 materials will be the entry point into the process of befriending your own nervous system.

In this live online session, the focus will be on the relationship between states and the ways the system is shaped by moving down and up the hierarchy. A variety of ways to travel between states and increase autonomic flexibility will be explored.

About Deb

Founder & Developer Deb Dana, LCSW

Deb Dana, LCSW, is a clinician, consultant, author and speaker specializing in complex trauma. Her work is focused on using the lens of Polyvagal Theory to understand and resolve the impact of trauma and in creating ways of working that honor the role of the autonomic nervous system. Deb’s work shows how an understanding of PVT is applicable across the board to relationships, mental health, and trauma. She delves into the intricacies of how an understanding and befriending of our nervous systems can change the ways we navigate our daily lives. Deb’s translation of PVT into a language that is both clear and accessible and her significant contribution, pioneering methods, tools, techniques and practices continue to help professionals and curious people from diverse backgrounds and all walks of life. Her valuable blueprint helps us to build resilience and find safety during the many ups and downs of life.

Meet Your Senior Trainers

Senior Trainer Gina Kiem, M.Ed, MA, LPC

Gina is a licensed professional counselor in the United States and Canada. She has worked in the field of education and the helping profession for over 25 years. Gina uses the Polyvagal Theory principles extensively in her practice to help her clients understand their nervous system from a deeply embodied place. Gina is dedicated to helping others who are struggling with issues related to symptoms of trauma, family relationships, cultural/ racial identity, and spirituality. Gina’s social justice work with Communities of Color has supported people who have been affected by racialized trauma or marginalized oppression. Gina is a trained Family and Systems Constellations facilitator working with intergenerational trauma and ancestral healing. As a certified Realization Process Embodied Meditation and Healing Ground teacher, Gina integrates Eastern mind/body/spirit meditation healing practices to help her clients find safety, wholeness, and authenticity in their life. Along with many of her holistic practices, Gina is honored to assist Deb Dana and her team of trainers and consultants in her Foundations of Polyvagal Informed Practice clinical training series.

Senior Trainer Amy Stenger-Sullivan, LPCC

About twelve years ago the Polyvagal Theory turned Amy’s life upside down, in the very best way possible. Embracing and integrating elements of the Polyvagal Theory has not only enriched her own life but has also fueled her passion for sharing this valuable knowledge with clients and colleagues alike. As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor - Supervisor, EMDRIA Certified EMDR therapist, and Certified Trauma Responsive Counselor, Amy has dedicated over 12 years to studying and teaching neuroscience and attachment through the lens of the Polyvagal Theory. She is honored to be a part of Deb Dana's Foundations of Polyvagal Informed Practice training team. Amy is recognized for her warm, inviting, and humorous presentation style, effortlessly translating complex information into easily understandable and actionable insights. Transitioning from a longstanding career as a massage therapist and instructor, Amy pursued graduate school to obtain her degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, driven by her profound interest in the Polyvagal Theory, mental health, and attachment. In her role as the Founder and lead Steward of Rooted Compassion Counseling and Consulting in Cincinnati, Ohio, Amy leads a team of ten clinicians who share in her exploration of the Polyvagal Theory, incorporating its principles into their practices. They offer these transformative approaches to clients through modalities such as movement, expressive arts, and trauma-informed practices

Consultant Cherie Bridges Patrick, PhD, MSSW, LISW-S

Dr. Cherie Bridges Patrick is a psychotherapist, wellness and leadership coach, author, educator, and consultant, and founder of Paradox Cross-Cultural Consulting, Training & Empowerment LLC. Her work seeks to advance healing as justice and growth as a pathway to liberation. She relies on Polyvagal Theory to help clients understand how trauma and stress impact not only who we are, but the justice and liberation we claim to seek, and the outcomes we want to achieve. Cherie's role is to be a regulated, compassionate presence and witness while she accompanies folks on their own healing journeys. She integrates decolonization approaches and liberatory practices that support clients in developing the resources to inquire into and hold the charge that accompanies social trauma, chronic stress, and life in general. Cherie is excited to serve in Deb Dana’s Rhythm of Regulation training series as a returning consultant.

Consultant Sarah Betz, LCSW

Sarah Betz (they/she) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 10 years of experience specializing in trauma, addiction, anxiety, and identity-affirming care for oppressed populations. She is the Founder & Clinical Supervisor at Meadow Therapy, a group practice committed to bringing therapy to those impacted by oppression and marginalization. They are anti-racist, body/fat positive, sex-positive, gender-affirming, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and poly/kink friendly. They seek to enhance the mind-body-spirit connection among their clients, therapists, and community to improve mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Sarah brings a Polyvagal lens to somatic and trauma-based work and helps clients and clinicians tap into the innate wisdom of the nervous system.

Consultant Rachel Rockey, MS, LPC

I am an Autistic therapist of 20 plus years. My focus is on Safety, Connection, Embodiment, Radical Self Responsibility, and the deconstruction of inequity and oppression, to expand liberation. My work focus is with people in transitions; spiritual and existential crossroads, as well as grief and loss, menopause, and trauma. I live in the forest with the ancestors, who are not in human form. I love PVT, roosters, hens, exercise, music, and sandwiches.
