Introduction and Orientation to Foundations of Polyvagal Informed Practice Training Series

In this live-online session, we'll begin the paradigm shift to looking through the lens of the nervous system and embody the practices. You'll learn how the structure of the training supports the dual focus of getting to know your own nervous system and bringing a polyvagal approach to clinical/professional work. You'll meet the training and consulting team and all the members of the cohort, as well as spend time with your polyvagal partner, small consultation group, and your group of 12.

Module 1 - Getting to Know the Nervous System

In this live-online session, the framework of the hierarchy will be used to look at the relationship between states and explore the essential need for ventral vagal oversight in the system. Module 1 materials will be the entry point into the process of befriending your own nervous system.

Module 2 - Autonomic Protection and Connection

In this live online session, autonomic patterns of protection and connection will be explored through getting to know the three pathways of neuroception and working with the elements of the social engagement system.

In this 90-minute experiential session, you will meet with your group of 12 and primary consultant to engage in an experiential practice that deepens your capacity to notice your own autonomic state and anchor in regulation.

Module 3 - Resourcing Regulation

In this live online session, you'll discuss the moments of rupture that inevitably happen in clinical/professional work and the process of autonomic repair. You'll explore a variety of ways to return to and anchor in regulation.

In this live online session, the focus will be on the relationship between states and the ways the system is shaped by moving down and up the hierarchy. We will explore a variety of ways to travel between states and increase autonomic flexibility.

Meet Your Senior Trainers

Senior Trainer Peggy Hough, MA, LCPC, CADC

Peggy Hough is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, specializing in the treatment of addictive disorders and trauma. She has been in private practice for nearly four decades. Peggy has extensive clinical expertise and works with multidisciplinary staffs. Peggy has worked and studied with Pia Mellody and is a certified PIT Therapist (Post Induction Therapy). She completed the three-year Somatic-Experiencing Professional Training Program. After assisting Deb Dana in teaching PVT, Peggy is now an Approved Consultant and Senior Trainer for Rhythm of Regulation and teaches Foundations of Polyvagal Theory to students around the world. Drawing from her own recovery, education, spiritual journey, and the wisdom of her many beloved mentors, Peggy works primarily from a family systems orientation and is Polyvagal Informed. Her goal has consistently been to help individuals identify and build on their own strengths to achieve their personal goals.

Senior Trainer Teresa Noakes, PhD

Dr. Noakes' career started in research and university lecturing before moving into community development. Dr. Noakes now works in her psychology private practice (www.drteresanoakes.com). Dr. Noakes holds qualifications in health science, counselling, and psychology and has completed training in Deep Brain Reorienting, Internal Family Systems, EMDR, Attachment-Informed EMDR, Circle of Security, DBT, Schema Therapy, Somatic Trauma Therapy, and Deb Dana's Polyvagal Rhythm of Regulations Foundation Program. Dr. Noakes is an approved consultant and trainer for Deb Dana. Dr. Noakes is delighted to work with Deb Dana's training team to deliver Polyvagal Foundations to organisations and practitioners in Australia and the United Kingdom. Dr. Noakes highlights, "It's truly empowering to learn how one's own unique nervous system engages in the world."

Meet Your Consultants

Consultant Jen Carriere, RSW

Jen Carriere is a Registered Social Worker who has worked as a Therapeutic Specialist with the Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF) for the last five years. Jen’s community services sector experience over the past 40 years incorporates outreach, mental health, and trauma-informed care roles. Her ethics of care and deep understanding of the complexities of trauma have shaped her approach, which integrates art therapy, attachment-focused therapies, polyvagal theory and dyadic developmental approaches. Several years ago, Jen attended a speaker session with Deb Dana, who has developed clinical applications of polyvagal theory. This approach resonated strongly with Jen, who is now trained in Deb Dana’s Rhythm of Regulation. This approach now underpins all of Jen’s work with children, families and the systems around them. Jen applies this knowledge to her personal life, where she loves being in nature to replenish her nervous system and enrich her life with her family in Tasmania.

Consultant Meredith Byden, LCSW

Meredith Bryden is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Jacksonville, Florida. She specializes in treating childhood trauma and childhood relational trauma. Meredith has 20+ years of experience working with children/adolescents, adults, couples, families, and Veterans. She is skilled in addressing dysfunctional relational patterns, parenting issues, and difficulties that may arise within blended families and managing appropriate relationships with aging parents. Meredith is also skilled in teaching and providing clinical consultation to mental health and health professionals. Meredith is aware of the value of animal-assisted therapy and is hopeful to include this in her practice in the future. Trained by Pia Mellody, Meredith uses Post Induction Therapy (PIT) as a framework in her practice. Meredith is also a Polyvagal Informed therapist and was trained by Deb Dana LCSW, founder of the Rhythm of Regulation, Polyvagal Theory in Therapy. Meredith has served as a member of Deb Dana’s training team since 2021. Meredith is also a certified Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) provider, as well as certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Deb Dana, LCSW, is a clinician, consultant, author and speaker specializing in complex trauma. Her work is focused on using the lens of Polyvagal Theory to understand and resolve the impact of trauma and in creating ways of working that honor the role of the autonomic nervous system. Deb’s work shows how an understanding of PVT is applicable across the board to relationships, mental health, and trauma.
