Introduction and Orientation to Foundations of Polyvagal Informed Practice Training Series

In this live-online session, we'll begin the paradigm shift to looking through the lens of the nervous system and embody the practices. You'll learn how the structure of the training supports the dual focus of getting to know your own nervous system and bringing a polyvagal approach to clinical/professional work. You'll meet the training and consulting team and all the members of the cohort, as well as spend time with your polyvagal partner, small consultation group, and your group of 12.

Module 1 - Getting to Know the Nervous System

In this live-online session, the framework of the hierarchy will be used to look at the relationship between states and explore the essential need for ventral vagal oversight in the system. Module 1 materials will be the entry point into the process of befriending your own nervous system.

In this live online session, autonomic patterns of protection and connection will be explored through getting to know the three pathways of neuroception and working with the elements of the social engagement system.

Meet Your Senior Trainers

Senior Trainer Tove Borgendale, LMT

Tove Borgendale, LMT has over 25 years of experience working with complex and preverbal trauma and takes a holistic approach to healing body/mind/spirit and heart. She is licensed as a massage therapist with a focus in developmental and strain trauma as it relates directly to befriending, honoring and trusting our bodies. In addition to multiple hands-on modalities, Tove draws upon Barbara Brennan energy healing, Nondual Kabbalistic Healing, Nondual Shamanism, and The Polyvagal Theory in her work with clients. Tove is a mother, a visual artist, and a teacher of Nondual Shamanism, as well as multiple topics in The Polyvagal Theory, including assisting Deb Dana in her Rhythm of Regulation and Foundations Trainings. She loves helping people become more fully themselves.

Senior Trainer Dawn Wilcox, LCSW

Dawn Wilcox is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a private practice located in New Jersey, US, and specializes in working with children, teens and families, specifically in the areas of developmental trauma and attachment trauma. She is an approved New Jersey Clinical Supervisor, an EMDRIA Certified EMDR therapist, an EMDRIA-approved EMDR Consultant and an EMDR Institute Facilitator in Training. She is certified in the Integrative Attachment Trauma Protocol for Children and is a consultant for the IATP-C certification process. Dawn is trained in the Safe and Sound Protocol, Sand Play Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and SMART (Sensory Motor Arousal and Regulation Treatment). In addition, she has completed the Traumatic Stress Studies Certificate Program through the Trauma Research Foundation. Since first introduced to Polyvagal Theory, Dawn has pursued continuing her education and incorporating the theory into her clinical practice and personal life. Dawn joined Deb Dana’s Foundations of Polyvagal Informed Practice training team in 2021. She is passionate about teaching and supporting others to bring Polyvagal Theory into their own clinical practice and personal space.

Meet Your Consultants

Consultant Manal Aldabbagh

Manal Aldabbagh is an embodiment coach and movement facilitator, currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Creative Health at UCL. With over ten years of experience, she has facilitated dance and movement for well-being in various countries including Saudi Arabia, USA, South Korea, and UAE. Currently, she works at Tawazon Center in Jeddah as a Nervous System educator and parenting coach. Manal is also a co-founder of the embodiment in Arabic conference and the creator and host of two podcasts: Start the Conversation podcast in Arabic and The Human Connection podcast in English. She is an advocate for mental health, well-being, and sustainability. Manal was born and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and currently resides in London, UK.

Consultant Brooke Farrell, PhD, LCMHC

Brooke Farrell Ph.D., LCMHC is the founder of UNIFY FAMILIES, a private practice devoted to supporting individuals, parents, and families through times of relational distress and transition. She delights in using Polyvagal theory to help clients understand their own nervous systems, as well as those of their loved ones. Having worked with children and families for over 15 years, Brooke’s experience includes clinical positions in psychiatric, wilderness, and residential settings as well as in academia as a university professor. She enjoys the therapeutic process with clients, as well as providing clinical peer supervision and trainings. Her education in Counseling Psychology (M.S.) and a Ph.D. in Child & Family Studies, both from the University of Tennessee, have created a foundation from which her clinical expertise has continued to grow. Brooke’s therapeutic approach integrates attachment theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Polyvagal Theory (PVT), and experiential family therapy. In her down time, Brooke loves spending time outdoors with her husband, twin daughters, and their two Italian Greyhounds.

Consultant Esther Raphael

Esther Raphael is an ICF Professional Certified Coach with a PgCert in Business and Personal Coaching. Based in the UK, she is a Polyvagal-informed coach who helps organisations enhance wellbeing and performance by fostering a shared sense of safety among teams and leaders. Esther also works with private clients worldwide who seek to overcome limiting beliefs and achieve a more expansive human experience. She has completed several Polyvagal courses, including the foundational course and Michael Allison’s Polyvagal Playzone. Additionally, she is trained in Reiki and sound healing. Esther volunteers at her local hospital, supporting individuals at the end of their life.

Founder & Developer Deb Dana, LCSW

Deb Dana, LCSW, is a clinician, consultant, author and speaker specializing in complex trauma. Her work is focused on using the lens of Polyvagal Theory to understand and resolve the impact of trauma and in creating ways of working that honor the role of the autonomic nervous system. Deb’s work shows how an understanding of PVT is applicable across the board to relationships, mental health, and trauma. She delves into the intricacies of how an understanding and befriending of our nervous systems can change the ways we navigate our daily lives. Deb’s translation of PVT into a language that is both clear and accessible and her significant contribution, pioneering methods, tools, techniques and practices continue to help professionals and curious people from diverse backgrounds and all walks of life. Her valuable blueprint helps us to build resilience and find safety during the many ups and downs of life.
